The places where people are born and grow up have special meanings for them. Because of these special meanings, they always feel themselves the best in these places. They know the good and bad sides of these places, which we can name as homelands. In addition, these people’s memories, from their childhood to their agedness, take part in these places. That is why homeland has a different significance for each person. From this point of view, it is expressed that even if the people are not rather farther away from their homelands, they will feel as they are in foreign lands. Once people are away from their homelands, it is not pretty important how far they are from their mother lands, for everywhere, apart from their homelands, is a foreign land for them. TDK explains this proverb as follows: “Even if people are not pretty farther away from their mother land, once they leave home, they will feel as if they were in a foreign land.” (TDK Atasözleri ve Deyimler Sözlüğü).
